If your taskbar buttons are invisible, how to fix them?

For some unknown reason all taskbar buttons has disappeared from my taskbar in Windows XP SP2! Such thing happened before, however system restore fixed that situation. Now this doesn’t help. When programs are loaded the taskbar is empty and I can switch between applications using Alt+Tab only! How to fix this?

I found a very helpful site: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm
There are many VBS Files. I'm not sure if these scripts are not malicious, because they make changes to the System Registry.

Therefore, I suggest to fix the problem manually. Here are the steps:

  • in registry create under following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  • DWORD parameter NoToolbarsOnTaskbar
  • set it “1”
  • restart – all bars on the taskbar will be cleared
  • change the NoToolbarsOnTaskbar to “0”
  • restart

These steps are going to reset the System Registry.
